The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has released its Quarterly Superannuation Performance publication and the Quarterly MySuper Statistics report for the September quarter.

Key statistics for the superannuation industry as at 30 September 2017 include:

• Total superannuation assets have grown by 8.7% over the 2016/17 financial year to $2.529 trillion.
• Total assets in APRA-regulated super funds stood at $1.637 trillion at 30 September 2017, up 9.1% from a year earlier. This includes $610.2 billion in MySuper assets, up 24%.
• Total self-managed super fund assets are estimated to be 7.8% higher than the same time last year and now stand at $701.6 billion.
• Key statistics for entities with more than four members for the year ended 30 September 2017:
  o Total contributions $117.2 billion
  o Total benefit payments $74.4 billion
  o Net contribution flows $38.1 billion
